Starter Clips

Starter clips are used to secure the first row of composite deck boards without visible screws. Because most composite boards use a hidden fastener groove system, the first board (and sometimes the last board) needs a special clip to hold it firmly in place.

How they work

• Starter clips attach directly to the rim joist or the outer joist
• The first grooved deck board slides into the clip
• once in place, the rest of the boards are secured with standard plastic decking clips between each board.
• This keeps the edges clean and screw free.

Why they’re important

• Provide a clean, finished look, no face screwing on the first board
• Prevent the first board from shifting
• Ensure correct spacing and alignment for the rest of the deck.
