Metal Decking Clips

Metal decking clips are used to secure composite decking boards to the joists without visible screws on the surface. They fit into the grooves along the sides of deck boards and are screwed into the joists, holding the boards tightly in place.

Plastic decking clips

Material: Reinforced polymer

Used for: Many composite decking systems

Gap: 5mm

Pros

• More affordable than metal clips making them a good option if you are working on a tight budget
• corrosion proof – plastic won’t rust, which is especially helpful in coastal or damp environments

Cons

• Not as strong metal clips
• more sensitive to temperature expansion, UV exposure and heavy loads, so boards may shift more easily
• They don’t hold as tightly as metal clips
