Composite Balustrade Baserail

The baserail is the rail that runs along the bottom of a balustrade — the one your spindles seat into. At the top it mirrors the handrail, and at deck level it ties the whole run together. So buy it on its own when you’re extending a longer run, replacing a damaged section, or, instead of working from a standard kit, building a balustrade to your own measurements.

Because it’s made from the same composite as our balustrade kit and decking — real wood fibres bound with plastic resin — you get the grain and warmth of timber but without the upkeep. So there’s no sanding, no staining and no yearly repaint. Instead, a wash with soapy water now and then is all it asks for.

Why composite

• Holds its colour. It’s UV-stabilised, so it won’t grey off or blotch in full sun and British weather. Of course there’s a slight, even mellowing in the first few weeks — but then it stays put.
• No rot, no warp. Because it absorbs far less water than timber, it won’t split, cup or rot where the rail meets the deck — which, on a timber balustrade, is usually the first thing to go.
• Low maintenance. So there’s no annual sanding or staining. As a result, it keeps its strength and finish year after year with next to no effort.
